Amateurs
participating in "Puppeteer Chrudim" after the Velvet
Revolution
The
conditions for the amateur puppet theatre changed after 1989.
Many puppeteer companies, especially the larger traditional ones,
lost their background facilities and ceased to exist. On the other
hand, new, usually smaller, groups were set up and there was a
significant increase in young and more mature members, as well
as in groups that already existed. On the whole, the quality of
amateur production has improved. The national festival "Puppeteer
Chrudim" (in 2006 - already the 55th event) annually presents
the most interesting performances of amateur puppet groups. In
the puppets and photographs presented, this exhibitions offers
a sample of some of the festivals of over the past 16 years.

Puppets in Jan Hlína' s graphic art
Academic
painter and graphic artist Jan Hlína (1925-1991) studied in the
artist Karel Svolinský's studio of the Academy of Arts, Architecture
and Design, Prague. From the 1950's, his graphic work was closely
connected with Eastern Bohemia, especially the Chrudim area, and
also with the festival "Puppeteer Chrudim", for which
he used to design posters and printed programmes. He did the same
for the Museum of Puppets. What is more, he designed the Museum
logo and participated in planning some of the exhibitions. His
work culminated in preparing the printed materials for the 40th
Puppeteer Chrudim festival in 1991. He died at Christmas that
year.
