František Tvrdek, the inventor of the luminescent theater, would celebrate the centenary of his birth

The legendary creator of the luminescence theater, designer, theater director, puppeteer and teacher František Tvrdek was born on January 26, 1920 in Prague. At the Nocturno Theater he staged interiors and costumes using luminescence techniques since the 1940s, and in the 1950s he led the Luminescence Laboratory at the Prague Scenography Institute. In 1960 he founded his own ensemble "Luminescent Theater of František Tvrdek". The theater traveled 21 countries and participated in more than fifty television productions. Especially popular were those for Nordeutscher Rundfunk and East German television. As a professor, puppeteer and theater principal he visited, among others, Korea, China, Mongolia, Vietnam, USSR, West Germany, East Germany, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Italy, Turkey. From 1990 until his death in 2009, he worked with the Image Theater, which continues its legacy to this day.
